When people ask me what "diet" I follow, I tell them I eat what makes me feel best. This can differ weekly, monthly and also seasonally. While there are certain diet protocols that are great to adhere to for specific reasons, for certain amounts of time, I truly believe that the key to sustainability with our health is learning to listen to our bodies, adjust and make choices that will support our overall goals as well as our lifestyle.
For the last 2 years, I have felt great when I eat an animal based diet. I try to keep my choices varied. Some days I add in raw honey, maple syrup or some fruits and vegetables that work well for my body. I try to avoid the foods (particular plants and grains, in my case) that cause an inflammatory response. This is different for everyone! So as we move through our healing journey, reconnect to our bodies and learn to listen (or intentionally ignore) our bodies signals, we will begin to uncover what foods are "superfoods" for US, and which are not.
This pizza can be tailored 100% to your particular liking! For example, if your body responds well to tomato sauce, onions, peppers, greens, etc. add them! If your body doesn't respond well to dairy (for me, RAW dairy is good but pasteurized dairy is not), omit the cheese and go with something like ground beef on top! Never keep yourself tied into the dogma of "this isn't compliant of X diet" because the diet that works best for YOU is as unique as you are! And there is no shame or guilt that should ever be tied to you making a choice to eat the way that FUELS your body, your tastebuds, and makes you feel amazing!
So, to get to the recipe, here we are!
Carnivore Pizza Crust
Ingredients:
5 oz. Pork Rinds (I used EPIC, one large bag or two small bags)
1 Lb. Ground Chicken or Turkey (The leaner, the more dry/crispy the crust will get!)
3 Whole Eggs
1 TB Grassfed Butter or Ghee
1/3 Tsp Sea Salt
Optional: 1 TB Additional Seasonings like Italian, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme, etc.
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees (F)
Place pizza stone in oven to heat up (makes crust more crispy!)
In a food processor, process pork rinds until they become a fine powder. Remove any hard pieces that did not break down.
Place pork rinds in a large bowl
Add ground chicken(or turkey), eggs and melted butter(or ghee) to the food processor and process until a smooth paste forms
Add salt and ground meat mixture to the bowl with pork rinds and fold together until fully combined into a large ball of dough
Place dough onto parchment paper and use your hands to shape into your crust. You can make a thicker or thinner crust, whichever you prefer!
Transfer dough (with parchment paper) onto the pizza stone and bake for 25-30 minutes
Remove from oven and add toppings
Return pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 12 minutes
Remove from oven, let cool a minute and enjoy!
Toppings!
For this pizza I used a 4-cheese combo with bacon. I recommend using A2 Raw Cheese whenever possible! However, grass-fed pasturized cheeses like Kerrygold brand are good option if raw is unattainable.
If you are unsure where to find Raw Dairy, check out this "Real Milk Legal Map" that helps to provide more insight as to how your state allows the sale of raw milk. For instance - in my state (MA) I can purchase raw milk directly from a dairy farm within the state. However, since I do not have one very close, I order from a farm in PA that delivers weekly to my area.
Other topping combos I love:
Butternut Squash, Goat Cheese and Arugula
Sausage, Spinach, Feta and Mushrooms
Pear, Goat Cheese, Sautéed Onions, Balsamic Drizzle
Ground Beef & Sausage (for another fully carnivore option!)
What are your favorites!? I would love to hear how you would dress this pizza up with whatever toppings you LOVE and also love your body back!
